How To Get Your Free Website On Google Quickly 2020 (Google Search Console Indexing)

Updated: May 25, 2020

Getting listed on Google is great to gain more traffic and get your business in front of potential consumers. For Wix websites like ours, the 'Wix SEO Wiz’ can help get your site on Google...if you purchase a domain and a premium Wix plan. We understand new websites or businesses may not want to invest in these yet or don't have the funds to do to, and we have the solution!

In this article, we will be going through step by step on how to get your website on Google without having to invest the money.

Quick definitions

  • Index: a library of all the links available. In order for your page to be included in Google search results, it needs to be included in the Google index.

  • Google Search Console: the service we’ll be using to get your site listed. It also shows a range of analytics related to traffic and issues with your website. Until 2015, this was called Google Webmaster Tools, and in 2018 a new interface was launched (which appears on many older tutorials).

Setting up your Google Console Account

2. Select the URL prefix property type and enter your full URL

3. Click Continue

4. You will need to verify your ownership on your website so this step depends on your website builder. For Wix websites, copy the HTML tag go to your dashboard settings SEOAdvanced SEO Settings Paste the meta tag under Add Header Code Meta Tags

5. Return to Google and click the Verify

6. Go to the URL inspection tool or simply paste a URL in the box at the top

7. If your site is not in Google’s index you will see the message 'URL is not on Google'. Click Request Indexing. Google will then test if the page can be indexed, this may take some time. If you see the 'Indexing requested' message, well done!

8. You can for wait for Google to index it. If you would rather see results immediately, click Test URL Live

9. Check it out! Your website is on Google!

Another way to check if you're on Google is to search your URL with site: in front of it. For example, searching site:marketingnerd.wixsite.com/marketingnerd will show you which pages on our websites are in Google's system.

We recommend performing steps 6-9 again for individual pages to ensure they appear on Google. By following these steps, rather than waiting for Google to notice your site (which can take months), you can tell Google about your site and appear in search results ASAP.
